MDG: Current Situation in Songinokhairkhan District

Songinokhairkhan district was established on October 1, 1994 according to the District Citizens’ Representative Khural resolution in conformity with the Parliament resolution No18.Songinokhairkhan district borders Chingeltei district to the northeast, and Bayangol and Khan-Uul to the east and the south, and Tuv aimag’s Altanbulag,Argalant, Bayantsogt, Bayanchandmani, Bornuur and Batsumber soums to the north. District has developed mutual cooperation and relationships with othercountry’s cities and districts such as Uu Cheun district of Huh Hut City, China; Buren City, Guaji city Guaysen, Seoynbug and Kangdong districts, Republic of Korea; as well as other eight districts of Ulaanbaatar and Sukhbaatar, Selenge and Bulgan aimags of the country.
The district’s territory consists of 120.6 thousand sq. hectares, and it is subdivided into 25 administrative units-khoroos. By end of December 2007, therewere 220,295 population and 75.1 thousand livestock. Out of total areas, 77% isused by the entities, 19.4% are under forestry areas, 2.3% is occupied by roads and line networks. The population density is 1.8 persons per sq.km area. The highest populationdensity area is 16th khoroo with the apartment micro districts area. Its density reaches 264.9 persons per sq.km, and the lowest density is the 21st khoroo where there are only 0.1 persons per sq.km. Out of total population, 48.5% are male and 51.5% are female population. Songinokhairkhan is the home to about 24% of total Ulaanbaatar population, and 25.5% of Ulaanbaatar territory area belongs to Songinokhairkhan which considered one of biggest district of capital city.
