>> UNDP’s role in the UN’s Country team in MongoliaBookmark and Share

UNDP coordinates the operational activities of the UN in Mongolia. In partnership with the Government of Mongolia, civil society, academia and the donor community, the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) developed the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for Mongolia for 2007-2011, a strategic programming framework for the UN system to support the national priorities and goals of Mongolia in 2007-2011. It identifies four areas of UN interventions in Mongolia’s
development efforts:

  • Support to quality socio-economic services to vulnerable populations in disadvantaged regions and areas;
  • Strengthening democratic governance;
  • Sustainable environmental development;
  • Strengthening global, regional and South-South cooperation to address cross-border social, economic and environmental concerns.

In addition, UNDAF identifies key areas for UN joint programming, involving one or more of the UN agencies. Those are:

  • Preventing HIV/AIDS;
  • Strengthening statistical capacity and decentralized MDG monitoring;
  • Promoting safe motherhood to reduce maternal mortality;
  • Human rights education
  • Water and sanitation
  • Prevention of violence against women and children.

In the spirit of the ongoing UN Reform, UNCT Mongolia, together with the government, is committed to “Delivering as One United Nations” in Mongolia. Our rationale for “One UN” is to have effective, efficient and coherent programme to maximize development benefit for the people of Mongolia. Efforts are also made to accelerate the simplification and harmonization initiatives of the UN to heed to the Paris Declaration. Collaboration is being strengthened with the resident and non-resident UN agencies as well as other donors and partners.
